Donating your pontoon boat, whether a Bennington, Sun Tracker, Manitou, Avalon, or Princecraft, helps families embrace the water-loving lifestyle in San Antonio. Many donors are lake property owners who are either downsizing, moving away, or simply looking to pass on their beloved watercraft to those who will cherish it. Your hours of use matter more than mileage, as each hour on the water creates lasting memories.
At Ride Again, we understand the emotional connection you have with your pontoon boat. Many of our donors are savvy about trailer inclusion, which can significantly enhance the boat's value. The aging segment of lake-house owners often finds themselves with boats that are ready for new adventures. By donating your vessel, you're ensuring that another family can enjoy the joys of lake recreation, all while making a positive impact in the community.

Known issues by generation
Each generation of pontoon boats has specific issues that donors should be aware of. Bitoons may experience slower speeds and can require routine maintenance like vinyl furniture reupholstering due to sun-fading. Tritoon boats, while offering superior performance and stability, can experience log damage from impacts, necessitating potential weld-seal repairs. Additionally, older models might face substructure rot under carpet, while mooring covers often suffer from UV degradation. Regular maintenance, such as biennial bottom-paint renewals for saltwater moorings, is essential to uphold the boat's longevity.
Donation value by condition + generation
Donation values for pontoon boats can vary significantly based on their condition and hours of use. Low-hour examples, especially with trailer inclusion and premium accessories, can fetch $40k-$80k for high-end tritoons. Mid-tier models typically range from $15k-$30k, while entry-level pontoons may have values between $5k-$15k. For donations valued above $5k, we recommend a surveyor inspection ($300-$500) to ensure accurate valuations for IRS Form 8283 Section B, utilizing resources such as BUC, NADA Marine, and Kelley Blue Book Marine.
Donation process for this model
Donating your pontoon boat is simple with Ride Again. Please provide the Hull Identification Number (HIN) located on the starboard transom, along with the separate VIN for outboard engines. If your boat exceeds 5 net tons, ensure that you have the appropriate documentation, either USCG or state-titled. Trailers are treated as separate assets with their own VINs. Be prepared to supply service history or any membership records from BoatU.S. or Sea Tow. For high-value donations, we recommend a surveyor inspection to defend your valuation. Seasonal pickup options are available for winter-stored boats.
San Antonio regional notes
San Antonio offers a unique landscape for pontoon boat owners, with a mix of lakefront property and the appeal of seasonal vacations. Many residents transition to Florida for snowbirding, while others enjoy the fresh-water lakes in the area. Understanding the local boating culture, including saltwater vs. freshwater use, is key in maintaining your pontoon boat. Seasonal storage discipline is paramount; proper care ensures longevity whether your boat is lifted or stored during off-seasons.
